Jane Barg, Food Coordinator

Jane is arguably one of the most — if not THE most — popular team members here at BMA. Her delicious snacks are prepared with equal parts culinary skill, creativity, and tender loving care. She keeps our students nourished with healthy snacks and homemade baked goodies each academy day so that they have good energy to focus and learn music with our teaching artists.

Karen Murphy-Corr, Administrator & Social Media

While she played ukulele and guitar and was a member of a glee club at one time, Karen was NOT hired at Bakerview Music Academy (BMA) for anything related to music. Karen, who is a military brat and moved all over Canada growing up, earned her Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University and worked at a daily newspaper before moving into corporate administrative work, writing, and editing. She recently joined BMA to help with administration and social media. Karen hopes you already like our BMA Facebook page and follow @bakerviewmusic on Instagram! When she’s not helping us at BMA, she’s writing and editing for other clients or enjoying life with her husband, their sons and daughters, dog Abby, and Luna the cat.

Val Hager, Special Education Assistant

Val is a preschool teacher and the mother of three (two of whom are grown!). She loves to work with children and youth of all ages and feels that she is always learning from the children and students in her care. Val hails from Alberta but moved west in the early aughts and has raised her family here in beautiful Abbotsford, BC. She joined BMA as a Special Education Assistant (SEA) in the fall of 2021, bringing with her extensive experience helping children learn to deal with big feelings in acceptable ways and realize their full potential. When she’s not working at preschool or as a SEA with our music academy, Val loves to be out in nature — rock hunting, watching waves in the water, and building campfires. She is also an active volunteer in the community, first with the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) at Godson Elementary, then with Abbotsford Middle School, and now with Abbotsford Senior Secondary School. An avid Disney fan, Val’s favourite character is Mickey Mouse.

Bakerview Music Academy’s Special Education Assistant position was funded in 2021-2022 by a grant from the Abbotsford Community Foundation Smart & Caring Community Fund.
